For a number of years, Courtney has been diligently working to reduce its carbon impact by addressing electricity use and material use in its operations. In 2021, we offset the remaining carbon in our inventory. That made us carbon neutral for our operations* – and that felt great. But there was more.
In December 2022, Courtney Agencies calculated the carbon in its Scope 3 emissions** (indirect) and made the bold decision to offset everything! Everything! including the shipping services delivered on behalf of its clients. Courtney is committed to setting the bar high for the industry.

It is a significant investment on Courtney’s part, but a critical piece in the movement to stem rising global temperatures. International and local shipping (air, ocean and road) is known to have a significant impact on levels of atmospheric carbon and other greenhouse gases.
The industry continues to work on the development of technologies and logistical strategies to reduce absolute carbon. Until those are mature, Courtney will purchase offsets with a focus on reducing carbon emissions at source. That’s the next best thing.

** Scope 3 emissions are the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain. For Courtney, that means tracking and offsetting the movement of goods it arranges for clients.
We’re Climate Smart certified
Courtney has been certified with Radicle Climate Smart since 2019 and, in fact, trained and collected data with Climate Smart in 2007/8 – the year of its inception. It is an award-winning certified B Corp that has developed a practical and solutions-based program for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to profitably track and reduce GHG emissions.
Certification requires baselining inventories, identifying opportunities to lower impact, and prioritizing those opportunities based on gains, cost, speed and effort.
We now have a baseline of our carbon footprint and can measure the impact of changes to which we committed. In our operations, we vow to use less – less electricity, less paper, less fuel for moving people and goods, less of the earth’s resources overall.
In 2021, Courtney off-set its carbon emissions for 2019 and 2021 and achieved “carbon-neutral” status for 2021.
