Port of New York and New Jersey hit a monthly record in September
The Port of New York and New Jersey announced that it hit a monthly record in September. Total volume for September 2018 was 603,034 TEUs versus 573,458 TEUs in September 2017, a 5.2% increase.
Import loads (TEUs) were up by 5.7% in September 2018 vs. September 2017 and export loads (TEUs) increased 2.6% in September 2018 vs. September 2017. Export empties increased 6.1% totaling 180,880 TEUs in September 2018 versus 170,414 TEUs in September 2017.
Rail volume increased 20.4% from the previous year's September figure to 55,991 containers in September. This is the seventh consecutive month of rail volume above 50,000 containers.
Autos moved through the Port of New York and New Jersey totaled 38,779 in September 2018, a decrease of 15.4% when compared against September 2017.
