Canadian shippers' ground transportation costs increases 1.5%.

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased by 1.5% in July, as compared with June results.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of accessorial charges assessed by carriers, increased by 1.2% in July.

Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers increased again this month. Fuel was 19.35% of Base Rates in July versus 18.54% in June.

"Total Freight Costs increased by 1.5% in July," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx. "Cross Border & Domestic Truckload led the increase. Domestic LTL had a slight gain while Cross Border LTL decreased. All segments are well above last years levels," continued Payne.
