New regulations for food importers and exporters start on January 15, 2019
The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations will come into force on January 15, 2019.
Under the new regulations, businesses that import food or prepare food for export or to be sent across provincial or territorial borders will usually need to have licences as well as preventive controls that address potential risks to food safety.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the following reminder for industry:
Four months until your food business may need a licence
"In four months food businesses may need a licence to import, export or send food across provincial and territorial borders. They may also need a preventive control plan and traceability records.
Find out what requirements will apply to your business when the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations come into force on January 15, 2019. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has interactive tools and timelines to help you.
