Ottawa launches consultation on rail transportation
The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) launched consultations on rail-related regulations and guidance materials. These consultations will support the implementation of the Transportation Modernization Act (Bill C-49), which amends the Canada Transportation Act to introduce new measures related to freight rail.
Many regulations date back 25 years or more and need to be updated to reflect changes in business models, user expectations, and best practices in the regulatory field.
The CTA invites affected stakeholders to share their views to ensure that the CTA's rail-related regulations and guidance materials are relevant, clear and up to date.
The CTA plans to complete consultations on all elements of this initiative by September 30, 2018, with the goal of obtaining all necessary approvals and beginning its implementation in late 2018 or early 2019.
