U.S. adds anti-dumping duty on imports of Canadian newsprint
The U.S. Commerce Department announced on Tuesday that it would begin imposing preliminary anti-dumping duties on certain uncoated groundwood paper (newsprint) from Canada which, it claims, is sold in the United States at less than fair value.
The Department found no dumping from two Canadian producers but set a a preliminary dumping rate of 22.16 percent for all other producers and exporters of uncoated groundwood paper from Canada.
As a result of this preliminary affirmative determination, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will be instructed to require cash deposits based on the preliminary rates.
This announcement comes on top of the January decision against Canadian newsprint producers, when the Department calculated preliminary countervailing duties at rates that range from 0.65 percent to 9.93 percent.
