CFIA proposes amendments to its administrative monetary penalties
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) launched a public consultation on proposed amendments to the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations, which would allow Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) to be issued to food businesses who do not comply with certain provisions of the Safe Food for Canadians Act and proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.
During the 60-day consultation period, the CFIA will host webinars to help food businesses understand the role that AMPs will play as an additional enforcement response.
The webinars will provide information on what the amended regulations would mean to consumers, food importers, and businesses that prepare food for export or trade across provinces, and how AMPs fit into the CFIA's approach to compliance and enforcement of regulations
