Foods legally sold in some countries may not meet Canadian import requirements
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a few years ago a notice to warn food importers that they are responsible for ensuring that any food imported into Canada for sale meets Canadian requirements and regulations.
The federal Agency emphasizes that foods legally sold in some countries may not meet Canadian requirements. In some instances, manufacturers may have specific formulations that meet Canadian regulatory requirements. It is the responsibility of the importer to ensure that the products they are importing are compliant.
In its notice the CFIA provides a list of links to assist importers in fulfilling their regulatory obligations.
