Canadian and Chinese officials held talks on possible Canada-China FTA
Global Affairs Canada announced that the first set of face-to-face discussions about a possible Canada-China free trade agreement (FTA) took place from February 20 to 24, 2017, in Beijing, China.
The talks were initiated following a meeting last September between Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and the Premier of of China, Li Keqiang where the two leaders agreed to launch exploratory discussions.
The Bejing discussions of last week served as an opportunity for both sides to exchange information on respective regulations and laws, and to explore parameters of a possible Canada-China FTA. Canadian and Chinese officials are currently working together on planning the next round of discussions.
Global affairs says the government will soon launch public consultations to seek the views of Canadians on a possible Canada-China FTA.
